چکیده

Many simulation-based performance studies of interconnection networks are carried out using synthetic workloads under the assumption of independent traffic sources. We show that this assumption, although may be useful for some traffic patterns, can lead to deceptive performance results for loads beyond saturation. Network throughput varies so much amongst the network nodes that average throughput does not reflect anymore network performance as a whole. We propose the utilization of burst synchronized traffic sources that better reflect the behavior of parallel applications at high loads. A performance study of a restrictive injection mechanism is used to illustrate the different results obtained using independent and non-independent traffic sources.

Eeect of Non-uniform Traac on the Performance of Multistage Interconnection Networks

Multistage interconnection networks are used to connect processors to memories in shared memory multiprocessor systems. The performance evaluation of such networks is usually based on the assumption of uniform memory reference pattern. Hot spots in such networks give rise to non-uniform memory reference pattern and result in a degradation in performance. A comparison of performance between unbu...

Mathematical Modelling of Torus Networks under Bursty Traffic

Many performance models for interconnection networks in parallel computing systems have been reported under the assumption of non-bursty Poisson arrival process. However, network traffic loads often exhibit bursty nature, which can markedly degrade the system performance. In order to develop a cost-efficient performance evaluation tool, this paper proposes a new analytical model for torus netwo...

Title Quality of Service Study for Single and Semi layer Interconnection Networks with Relaxing Blocking

Performance evaluation, using both analytical and simulation models, of multistage priority interconnection networks with a single layer or more layers is presented. The configurations of the networks under study apply a conflict drop resolution strategy. Our analytical models are based on a more realistic assumption. A new analysis is given and is verified by simulation results. In single netw...

Throughput fairness in k-ary n-cube networks

The performance of an interconnection network is measured by two metrics: average latency and peak network throughput. Network throughput is the total number of packets delivered per unit of time. Most synthetic network loads consist of sources injecting at the same given rate, using traffic patterns such as random, permutations or hot spot, which reflect the distribution of packet destinations...
